In some situations, it is advisable to laminate steel instead of powder coating. We have recently added this treatment method to our services.
What is laminating?
Laminating steel can be perfectly compared to powder coating, a technique we have mastered down to the smallest details for 26 years. Instead of polyester-based powder coatings, we use a specific type of plastic powder for laminating.
To apply this plastic coating, we need to heat the parts to high temperatures of over 300°C. This allows us to flawlessly melt the coating onto the surface.
The layer thicknesses vary between 250 and 2000 microns. This is where laminating differs from traditional powder coating, where the layer thicknesses are a maximum of 120 microns per layer.
When to laminate?
Laminating offers protection in the most extreme climatic conditions and environments. The powder used is officially approved by the water companies and also has a food suitability certificate from both the EU and the FDA.
Why laminate?
This is a single-layer, primer-free, halogen-free, strongly adhesive thermoplastic powder coating that offers the best and very durable corrosion protection in its class to steel and other metals, under the harshest conditions.
This thermoplastic has a unique set of properties:
- it is strong, flexible, and strongly adhesive to metal substrates
- it is also very resistant to prolonged exposure to the outdoors, as well as to alkaline and acidic chemical attack.
- the hardness, wear resistance, and impact resistance, combined with flexibility, provide unparalleled performance!
This thermoplastic performs exceptionally well in extremely corrosive and abrasive marine, offshore, and industrial environments. It enables maintenance-free, durable outdoor use, as required for offshore constructions, street furniture, or pipes, valves, and fittings in the water industry.
