Plastification is one of the high-quality services we offer at Tilkin Powder Coatings. It provides durable protection with minimal maintenance, resistant to harsh weather conditions and chemical acids.
We begin by cleaning the material using our blasting techniques and checking the surface roughness for optimal adhesion. The material is then heated in an oven to 330 degrees Celsius before the powder is applied to the hot surface. The powder particles melt into the rough substrate, forming a smooth, pore-free plastic layer ranging from 300 to 2000 microns thick.
We measure the coating thickness and check for pore defects to ensure a fully protective layer. All tests are documented in a quality report that meets the standards of the Flemish drinking water authority, "De Watergroep." In our control zone, we conduct a final inspection and correct any imperfections according to our repair procedures.
With plastification, we provide a long-lasting protective layer that ensures years of durability. When standard corrosion protection is not sufficient, Abcite offers a solution that exceeds the strictest corrosion standards. Especially in offshore applications, plastified metal guarantees long-term protection with minimal maintenance.
What is plastification?
Plastification of steel is very similar to powder coating, a technique we have mastered down to the smallest detail for over 26 years. However, instead of polyester-based powder coatings, plastification uses a specialized plastic powder.
To apply this plastic coating, the metal parts are heated to high temperatures exceeding 300°C. This allows the coating to melt seamlessly onto the surface, ensuring a flawless protective layer.
The coating thickness ranges from 250 to 2000 microns, making plastification significantly different from traditional powder coating, where the thickness per layer is typically limited to a maximum of 120 microns.

When to choose plastification?
Plastification provides protection in the most extreme climatic conditions and environments. The powder used is officially approved by water utility companies and is also certified for food safety by both the EU and the FDA.

Why choose plastification?
This is a single-layer, primer-free, halogen-free, highly adhesive thermoplastic powder coating that provides the best and most durable corrosion protection in its class for steel and other metals, even in the harshest conditions.
Unique properties of this thermoplastic:
- Strong, flexible, and highly adhesive to metal substrates.
- Excellent resistance to prolonged outdoor exposure, as well as alkaline and acidic chemical attacks.
- Superior hardness, wear resistance, and impact strength, combined with flexibility, ensuring unmatched performance!
This thermoplastic excels in extremely corrosive and abrasive maritime, offshore, and industrial environments. It enables maintenance-free, long-term outdoor use—ideal for offshore structures, street furniture, or pipes, valves, and fittings in the water industry.
